Pear Preserve Rolls With Poppy Seed
- 4 c. flour
- 8 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. poppy seed
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 1/3 c. milk
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 to 1 1/2 c. pear preserves
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- In mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and poppy seed.
- Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add milk, stirring just until moistened.
- Knead on lightly floured surface for 8 to 10 strokes.
- Roll into a 20 x 10-inch rectangle.
- Spread with softened butter, then with preserves.
- Sprinkle with additional poppy seed.
- Roll up, jelly-roll style, beginning with long side.
- Seal edge. Cut into 1-inch slices.
- Place cut side down in greased baking pan.
- Mix remaining 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over rolls.
- Bake in 375u0b0 oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
