Pear Preserve Rolls With Poppy Seed

  1. In mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and poppy seed.
  2. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add milk, stirring just until moistened.
  4. Knead on lightly floured surface for 8 to 10 strokes.
  5. Roll into a 20 x 10-inch rectangle.
  6. Spread with softened butter, then with preserves.
  7. Sprinkle with additional poppy seed.
  8. Roll up, jelly-roll style, beginning with long side.
  9. Seal edge. Cut into 1-inch slices.
  10. Place cut side down in greased baking pan.
  11. Mix remaining 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over rolls.
  12. Bake in 375u0b0 oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
