Red Velvet Cake
- 1 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. cocoa
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 1/2 c. Pillsbury all-purpose flour, sift well
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. vinegar
- 1 c. buttermilk
- Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
- Make paste of food coloring and cocoa.
- Add to first mixture.
- Add milk alternately with flour and salt, which have been sifted together.
- Add vanilla.
- Lastly, fold in soda and vinegar.
- Beat as for any other cake.
- Mix per these instructions for velvet texture.
- Pour into two (9-inch) pans which have been greased and lined with wax paper.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 minutes.
- Cool and split, making four layers.
- Ice with creamy white icing.
