Soft Cakey Sugar Cookies

  1. Cream butter and sugars. Add eggs one at a time, sour cream, and vanilla. Mix until fluffy.
  2. In a separate bowl, sift or whisk 5 cups flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda and mace.
  3. Mix dry ingredients into creamed ingredients 1/3 at a time. Divide into 2 or 3 discs or rolls. Cover each in plastic wrap. Chill for at least one hour.
  4. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into 2-3 inch circles or desired shapes.
  5. Bake at 300 degrees F for 8-12 minutes, until just beginning to brown on the bottom. Cool on pan for 5 minutes, transfer to cooling rack for 10-15 more minutes, until completely cooled.
  6. Frost with buttercream frosting, and decorate with sprinkles. Allow frosting to set before storing in an air-tight container.
