Masterful Meatloaf
- 2/3 cup dry bread cubes (about 2 thick slices of white bread)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground lean pork (unseasoned)
- 2 beaten eggs
- 1/3 cup grated onion
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 dash black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sage
- Prepared Topping
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 dash nutmeg
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl soak bread crumbs in milk.
- Add beef, pork, eggs, onion, salt, pepper and sage.
- Mix well with your hands and pat into a 9x13 loaf pan.
- In a separate bowl mix together brown sugar, ketchup, dry mustard, and nutmeg. Pour over meat loaf.
- Bake 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until lightly browned and a butter knife inserted in center comes out clean.
- If you have a meat thermometer, the internal temperature should be 180 degrees.
- Serve with baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, baked beans or green beans.
