Real Devil'S Food Cake

  1. Start oven at 375u0b0 or moderate.
  2. Grease bottoms and sides of 3 (8-inch) cake pans and dust with flour.
  3. Sift cake flour; measure it carefully and sift again with soda and salt.
  4. Cream margarine in bowl until soft and airy.
  5. Add sugar, a little at a time.
  6. Beat batter hard after the addition of each egg.
  7. Put chocolate in measuring cup and melt over boiling water.
  8. When melted, add to batter and mix thoroughly.
  9. Sift about 1/3 of the flour into batter.
  10. Stir well and add 1/3 of the buttermilk.
  11. Repeat, ending with flour.
  12. Mix in vanilla and boiling water.
  13. Pour batter into cake pans.
  14. Don't be alarmed at the thinness of the batter.
  15. Bake 25 to 30 minutes.
  16. Remove from oven and turn cake upside-down on cake rack.
  17. Spread frosting between layers and on top.
