Cream Cheese Brownies

  1. Grease a 9-inch pan.
  2. Melt chocolate and 3 tablespoons butter over low heat; cool.
  3. Cream remaining butter with the cream cheese until fluffy.
  4. Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar, creaming until light. Add 1 egg, 1 tablespoon flour and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and mix until smooth; set aside.
  5. Beat remaining eggs until fluffy and lemon-colored.
  6. Gradually add remaining sugar, beating until thick.
  7. Fold in remaining flour, baking powder and salt.
  8. Blend in chocolate mixture.
  9. Then add almond extract, remaining vanilla and the nuts.
  10. Measure 1 cup batter and reserve.
  11. Spread remainder in pan.
  12. Pour cheese mixture over top.
  13. Drop reserved chocolate batter by tablespoons over top.
