Grandma'S Fruit Cake

  1. Cream together sugar and butter.
  2. Add applesauce; add fruit, raisins, currants and nuts, mixing well.
  3. Add flour, salt, baking soda and spices, sifting together as you add to
  4. the applesauce mixture.
  5. The batter will be quite stiff.
  6. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 5-inch loaf pan or a 10-inch tube pan.
  7. Bake at 350u0b0 for 20 minutes.
  8. Then reduce heat to 325u0b0 and bake for 1 hour. Put a pan of water under it in oven.
  9. Test for doneness with a toothpick.
  10. Let cool in pan for about 5 minutes.
  11. Turn out of pan and continue to cool.
  12. When thoroughly cool, wrap in Saran Wrap and then in aluminum foil.
  13. Put away in a cool place to season. Should be about a month before you want to use it.
