German Spice Bars(Lebkuchen)

  1. Heat honey and sugar slightly in a pan.
  2. Add butter.
  3. Add 2 cups flour and baking powder; beat well.
  4. Add nuts, citron, peels and spices.
  5. Add 1 1/2 to 2 more cups flour until you have a thick, pliable dough.
  6. Pat it 1/4 inch thick into pans (three 8 x 8-inch cake pans and one 9 x 9-inch cake pan).
  7. Bake about 25 minutes. When cool, cut in squares and ice with Lemon Glaze.
  8. Make this ahead for Christmas.
  9. Keeps 6 months when in an airtight container!
