German (Beer) Coffee Cake

  1. Mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, allspice and cloves; set aside.
  2. Combine dates and nuts.
  3. Stir in a small amount of the flour mixture, to coat; set aside.
  4. In large bowl, cream the butter and sugar.
  5. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg.
  6. Add flour mixture, alternately with beer, blending well after each addition.
  7. Stir in dates and nuts.
  8. Pour into well-greased and floured 12-cup fluted tube pan.
  9. Bake at 350u0b0 for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  10. Cool pan on rack for 10 minutes.
  11. Turn out and cool.
  12. Wrap in foil and refrigerate for 24 hours.
