Texas Barbecue Sauce
- 1/2 c. melted butter
- 1/4 tsp. red pepper
- 1/2 pt. (1 c.) oil
- 1/2 regular bottle Worcestershire sauce
- 1 large onion, grated
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. mustard
- 1 (12 oz.) bottle catsup
- 2 or 3 cloves garlic, minced
- juice of 1 lemon
- liquid hot pepper to taste
- This mixture makes enough for a half dozen chickens or thick steaks.
- Rub meat well with salt and pepper.
- Daub on the mixture with a mop made by wrapping a rag around a stick.
- Baste almost continually as the meat is turned.
- Use the surplus to pour over the meat for gravy.
- Barbecue slow and easy.
- Cook the meat only over live coals burned down to where they are covered with a layer of white ash.
