Easter Bread(Cutzuppi)
- 2 to 3 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2/3 c. milk
- 2 eggs (room temperature)
- 2 Tbsp. margarine
- 3 Tbsp. anise seed
- 3 tsp. anise extract
- raw eggs, colored
- In a bowl, mix 1 cup flour, sugar, salt and dry yeast.
- In a saucepan, mix milk and margarine.
- Heat milk enough until margarine is slightly melted.
- Gradually add to dry mix and stir well.
- Add both eggs and 1/2 cup flour.
- Add seed and extract.
- Make thick, smooth batter.
- Gradually add flour to make a soft dough.
- Turn onto lightly floured table.
- Knead well.
- Place in a greased bowl and let rise in a warm place until size doubles, about 1 hour. Punch down.
- Divide dough in 2. Shape - e.g. cross.
- Place a colored egg on top as decoration.
