Never Fail Icebox Rolls
- 2 c. sweet milk or 1 c. water and 1 c. milk
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 yeast cakes
- 6 c. sifted, light, plain flour
- Put milk in 2-quart saucepan; add sugar.
- Add shortening. Scald milk (do not boil) with sugar and shortening added; remove from heat.
- Add salt.
- Let cool to room temperature.
- Add yeast cakes and stir until dissolved.
- Beat in flour gradually, then toss on floured breadboard; knead lightly.
- Place back in pan and let rise until doubled, approximately 2 hours.
- Take out of pan and knead again.
- Roll dough and make into rolls.
- Place on lightly greased baking sheets.
- Spoon liquid shortening or melted butter on tops of rolls.
- Cover and let rise in warm place approximately 1 1/2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Bake in preheated 425u0b0 oven for 15 minutes.
