Easy Christmas Morning Breakfast
- 16 slices white bread, crusts removed
- 16 slices ham, thinly sliced
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated and divided
- 6 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard (or up to 2 teaspoon)
- 1/4 cup onion, minced
- 1/4 cup green pepper, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (I use 2 teaspoon)
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1 dash Tabasco sauce
- 1/4 lb butter
- 2 cups corn flakes, crushed (or Special K)
- In a 9 X 13" buttered, glass baking dish, place 8 pieces of bread to cover the bottom. Add pieces to cover dish entirely. Cover bread with slices of back bacon or ham. Next create a layer of cheddar cheese on top of bacon and then cover with slices of bread to make it like a sandwich.
- In a bowl, beat, eggs, salt and pepper. To the egg mixture, add dry mustard, onion, green pepper, Worcestershire sauce, milk and Tabasco. Pour over the bread and meat layers. Cover and let stand in fridge overnight.
- In morning, preheat oven to 350. Melt 1/4 lb butter, pour over top. Generously sprinkle with Special K or crushed Corn Flakes. Bake, uncovered, 1 hour at 350u0b0F Let sit 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve with real maple syrup!
