Orange Candy Cake
- 1 c. butter
- 5 eggs
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates
- 2 c. chopped pecans
- 1 (4 oz.) can shredded coconut
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 1 lb. orange candy slices, cut in small pieces
- 4 c. plain flour, sifted (1/4 c. to dredge fruits and nuts, 3 3/4 c. to mix into batter)
- Turn oven to 300u0b0.
- Beat butter and
- sugar
- until it is fluffy.
- Add eggs, beating well after
- each
- addition.
- Mix in vanilla.
- Measure 3 3/4 cups of sifted
- flour
- andtift
- with baking
- soda
- and
- salt.
- Add
- flour
- mixture
- andtuttermilk alternately to cake batter.
- Mix chopped dates, chopped orange candy, chopped nuts and coconut in 1/4
- cup
- flour.
- Mix well. Fold this fruit-nut mixture into the
- cake batter.trease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
- Spoon batter into pan and bake in a slow oven (300u0b0) for 2 1/2 hours.
