Nina'S Christmas Jam Cake

  1. Cream butter until fluffy.
  2. Beat in granulated and brown sugars.
  3. Gradually add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  4. Stir together flour, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and salt.
  5. Sift this mixture twice.
  6. Save a little flour mixture and dredge fruit and nuts with it.
  7. Mix buttermilk and soda.
  8. Add to butter mixture.
  9. Mix with jam; beat well.
  10. Beat in flour, then stir in nuts and fruit.
  11. Beat egg whites until fluffy and fold in mixture.
  12. Line two 9-inch pans with greased wax paper, then grease again.
  13. Turn batter into pans.
  14. Bake in a preheated 350u0b0 oven for 1 hour.
  15. Remove from pans and cool on rack.
