Best Doggone Chili

• 7 tsp. butter
• 5 cloves minced garlic
• 2 large onions, chopped
• 2 large bell peppers*
• 1 lb. ground round
• 1 lb. London broil
• 2 Tbsp. chili powder
• 1 can crushed tomatoes
• 1 tsp. sugar
• 1 bay leaf, crumbled
• 1 tsp. basil
• pinch of thyme
• 1/2 tsp. paprika
• 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
• 1/2 tsp. ground allspice
• 1 dried red chili pepper*
• 1 tsp. soy sauce
• 1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce
• 6 Serrano peppers, chopped*
• 1 1/2 c. red wine
• 1 tsp. salt
• 1/2 tsp. black pepper
• 3 cans red kidney beans

1. *Any type of pepper can be substituted, including crushed red pepper, Italian hot peppers, jalapeno peppers and cherry peppers.
