English Wedding Fruit Cake
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 4 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. mace
- 1 lb. shortening
- 1 lb. brown sugar
- 10 eggs, well beaten
- 1 lb. chopped dates
- 1 lb. raisins
- 1 lb. currants
- 3 lb. mixed candied fruit
- 1/2 lb. walnuts, chopped
- 1 c. honey
- 1 c. molasses
- 1/2 c. orange juice
- Cream sugar and shortening.
- Sift dry ingredients and set aside.
- Mix liquid ingredients and add to creamed mixture, alternating with dry ingredients.
- Add beaten eggs; mix well. Combine all chopped fruit and nuts; add to batter.
- Mix well! Cook at 250u0b0 for 4 hours, in pans lined with brown paper, well-greased.
- Makes a 10-pound wedding cake.
