Taco Casserole
- 1 (16 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 3/4 tsp. dried oregano, crushed
- 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 c. chopped green pepper
- 1/4 c. chopped onion
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. bottled hot pepper sauce
- 1 lb. lean ground beef (I used ground round)
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 6 c. (9 1/2 oz. pkg.) corn chips, coarsely crushed
- 5 slices processed cheese or approximately 1/2 lb. Velveeta, sliced or shredded
- 2 c. shredded lettuce
- In medium skillet, cook meat until browned, stirring to break up large pieces.
- Drain excess fat.
- Sprinkle with garlic.
- Place crushed chips in bottom of 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
- Spoon hot meat over chips.
- Spread 3/4 to 1 cup of sauce over meat.
- Top with cheese.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 10 to 12 minutes until heated and cheese is melted.
- Top with lettuce and sauce.
- Makes 4 to 6 servings.
