Dolmathes(Stuffed Grape Leaves)
- 1 jar grape leaves, soaked in warm water, drained and set aside
- 1 1/2 lb. ground chuck or regular hamburger
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 c. crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. parsley
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1/2 c. Uncle Ben's rice
- juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1 stick butter, melted
- Mix together ground chuck, onion, tomatoes, salt, parsley, black pepper, rice and lemon.
- Add to melted butter in pot that you are going to cook in.
- Take 1 teaspoon of mixture and place in middle of grape leaf; fold sides over mixture and bring tip of grape leaf over.
- Roll tightly and place in pot.
- As you roll, place grape leaves in pot as close together as you can.
- Continue until all mixture is used.
- Usually it makes about 2 layers.
- Add 3/4 cup water.
- Invert a plate over Dolmathes.
- Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Turn off and let stand for 15 minutes.
