Spaghetti Meat Sauce
- 1 1/2 lb. hamburger
- 2 c. finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 2 tsp. dried basil leaves
- 1 tsp. dried oregano leaves
- 1/8 tsp. crushed red pepper
- 2 cans (3 oz.) Italian style tomatoes (undrained)
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1 (16 oz.) can tomato puree
- Saut meat. Cut into chunks with wooden spoon and cook for 10 minutes. Add onions and garlic, stirring frequently until meat is browned and vegetables are tender, about 10 minutes. Add sugar, salt, basil, oregano and crushed red pepper. Mix well. Add tomatoes, tomato paste and tomato puree. Mash tomatoes with wooden spoon. Bring to boiling; reduce heat, simmer, covered, stirring occasionally until thickened for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Makes 3 quarts. One quart is enough for 1/2 pound of spaghetti.
