Hazel Fishers' Date - Chocolate Cake
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates (1 c. cut fine)
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. Crisco or margarine
- 2 eggs
- 1 3/4 c. flour (presifted)
- 1 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
- pinch of salt
- 8 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. finely chopped nuts
- Place dates, boiling water and soda in bowl and let stand. Cream together sugar and Crisco or margarine.
- Add eggs.
- Sift flour, cocoa and salt.
- Alternate flour mix and liquid poured from dates, then add half of chocolate chips and vanilla.
- Pour batter into a greased and floured pan and cover with chopped nuts and remaining half of chocolate chips.
- Bake 45 to 50 minutes at 325u0b0. Use a 9 x 13 x 2-inch (deep) pan.
