Chocolate Peanut Butter Drops

• 1/2 c. crunchy peanut butter
• 1/2 c. softened shortening
• 1/2 c. sugar
• 1 egg
• 3/4 c. sifted flour
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
• pinch of nutmeg
• 1/4 c. cold water
• 1/2 c. quick-cooking oatmeal
• 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate bits

1. Cream peanut butter, shortening and sugar together well; beat in egg.
2. Sift flour with soda, salt and spices; add to egg mixture with the water.
3. Mix thoroughly, then stir in oatmeal and chocolate bits.
4. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet.
5. Bake in 375u0b0 oven for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
6. Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.
7. While still warm, sprinkle with sugar lightly (optional).
8. These are very good keepers.
