Skillet Barbecued Burgers
- 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
- 6 thin onion slices
- 1 Tbsp. Wesson oil
- 1/2 lemon, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1/4 c. finely chopped celery
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- Combine ground beef, egg, salt, pepper and 1/2 can tomato sauce.
- Form into six patties.
- Press one onion slice in each. Heat Wesson oil in skillet and brown onion side of patties.
- Pour off excess fat.
- Turn patties and lemon slices, celery and remaining seasonings.
- Pour on remaining 1 1/2 cans tomato sauce. Simmer, covered, for 15 minutes or until done.
- Baste patties occasionally.
- Serves 6.
