Homestyle Chili
- 2 lb. ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 c. celery, sliced
- 1/2 c. chopped green bell pepper
- 1/2 c. chopped red bell pepper
- 1 (28 oz.) can whole tomatoes (undrained), cut up
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. cumin
- 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 2 (15.5 oz.) cans red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- In medium skillet, brown meat with onion and drain.
- Add all remaining ingredients, except kidney beans.
- Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour.
- Add kidney beans; simmer until thoroughly heated.
- Makes 7 (1 1/2-cup) servings.
- To cook in a slow cooker, cook on high setting for 3 to 4 hours.
