Chocolate Meringue Pie

  1. Prepare pastry crust according to recipe.
  2. Combine cornstarch, sugar, salt and chocolate in a saucepan.
  3. Stir in milk gradually. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
  4. Boil 1 minute.
  5. Blend half the mixture into egg yolks.
  6. Stir into mixture in saucepan; cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  7. Remove from heat.
  8. Stir in butter or margarine and vanilla.
  9. Cool slightly.
  10. Pour into pastry shell and bake as directed in Basic Meringue Recipe.
