Black Walnut Chocolate Pound Cake
- 1 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
- 3 c. sugar
- 3 c. sifted flour
- 5 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 tsp. black walnut flavoring
- 1/2 c. chopped black walnuts
- 2 sticks margarine
- 5 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. milk
- Melt chocolate; set aside.
- Cream together the margarine, shortening and sugar.
- Beat in eggs, one at a time.
- Sift flour with baking powder, salt and cocoa.
- (Coat chopped walnuts with a bit of this.)
- Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
- Add flavoring, chocolate and nuts.
- Put into a greased and floured tube pan.
- Bake at 300u0b0 for 1 hour and about 45 minutes.
- Turn out on rack to cool.
- This freezes well.
