Ole-Time Yummy Beef Stew

  1. In Dutch oven, brown meat in 2 tablespoons hot shortening, turning often.
  2. Add 2 cups hot water and next 9 ingredients. Cover; simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove bay leaves and garlic.
  4. Add vegetables (may need to add a little more hot water).
  5. Cover and cook 30 to 40 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
  6. Serves 6 to 8.
