Grandma Yerak'S Nut Torte

  1. Preheat oven to 350u0b0 and grease two 9-inch layer cake pans. Separate all eggs; beat egg whites and 1/2 of sugar until stiff in a large bowl; set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks and remaining sugar until thick.
  3. Sift flour with baking powder and salt into egg yolk mixture and beat.
  4. Stir in maple syrup.
  5. Fold egg yolk mixture into egg whites with walnuts and chocolate.
  6. Pour into pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  7. When cool, split each layer in two, making 4 layers.
  8. Prepare whipped cream filling; beat whipping cream and sugar together until stiff and peaky. Spread between layers and over top of cake.
  9. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
