Grandma Yerak'S Nut Torte
- 6 eggs
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. cake flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. maple syrup
- 3/4 c. chopped walnuts
- 1/2 c. grated chocolate (optional)
- 2 c. heavy whipping cream
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0 and grease two 9-inch layer cake pans. Separate all eggs; beat egg whites and 1/2 of sugar until stiff in a large bowl; set aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks and remaining sugar until thick.
- Sift flour with baking powder and salt into egg yolk mixture and beat.
- Stir in maple syrup.
- Fold egg yolk mixture into egg whites with walnuts and chocolate.
- Pour into pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
- When cool, split each layer in two, making 4 layers.
- Prepare whipped cream filling; beat whipping cream and sugar together until stiff and peaky. Spread between layers and over top of cake.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve.
