Pinwheel Fruit Cobbler

  1. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves; set aside.
  3. Melt margarine in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish in a 350u0b0 oven.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Cut shortening into flour.
  6. Add milk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
  7. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly for 4 to 5 times.
  8. Roll into a 12 x 9-inch rectangle.
  9. Spread sliced fruit over dough.
  10. Roll up jellyroll fashion, beginning with long side.
  11. Cut dough into 12 (1-inch) slices.
  12. Place slices in butter.
  13. Pour syrup over slices; bake at 350u0b0 for 55 to 60 minutes or until golden.
