Zvadly Salat(Wilted Lettuce)
- 1 or 2 bunches leaf lettuce
- 2 or 3 slices bacon
- chopped onion to taste
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 or 2 Tbsp. mild vinegar
- 1 or 2 Tbsp. sour cream (optional)
- Leaf lettuce is best for this dish, but head lettuce may be used.
- Take 1 or 2 bunches of leaf lettuce (depends on the size of the bunch and the number of people to be served).
- Take leaves apart; remove blemishes and rinse until clean.
- Tear into pieces. Chop bacon; place in skillet and fry until done; remove bacon from the drippings.
- Add chopped onion to taste; saute until transparent.
- Return bacon to skillet and add salt to taste (it takes very little), sugar and vinegar.
- Heat to boiling.
- Add the lettuce and lightly stir until lettuce is coated with the seasonings and is slightly wilted.
- Serve at once.
- A tablespoon or two of sour cream may be added.
