American Pie(8 Servings)

  1. Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt in large saucepan. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  2. Bring to boil, stirring gently, over medium-high heat.
  3. Boil for 1 minute; remove from heat.
  4. Beat egg yolks lightly in small bowl.
  5. Gradually whisk in 1 cup hot mixture.
  6. Return to saucepan, whisking constantly.
  7. Return to boil and boil 1 minute more.
  8. Remove from heat; whisk in lemon juice, butter, vanilla, lemon peel and nutmeg until completely smooth.
  9. Cover surface; cool 15 minutes on wire rack.
  10. Whisk in sour cream; pour into baked 9-inch pastry crust.
  11. Cover filling; refrigerate at least 3 hours.
  12. Just before serving, spread top with whipped cream.
