Braided Easter Bread
- 5 eggs (uncooked), dyed different colors
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 1/3 c. milk
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. active dry yeast
- 2 to 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. cardamon
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp. lemon peel
- 1/4 tsp. aniseed
- 1 egg (room temperature)
- 1 egg white, slightly beaten
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. sesame seed
- Heat butter and milk to 120u0b0 to 130u0b0.
- Combine 1/4 cup sugar, salt, yeast and 1 1/2 cups flour in a large bowl.
- Add milk mixture, combining thoroughly.
- Add cardamon, cinnamon, lemon peel, aniseed and egg; mix thoroughly.
- Add remaining flour in small amounts until a soft dough.
- Knead until smooth (approximately 10 minutes).
- Place in greased bowl, coating all sides; cover with damp towel.
- Set in warm place to double (about an hour).
