Blooming Apple Recioe
- 2 honey crisp apples or 2 any other crisp apples
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 caramels, unwrapped
- Optional toppings
- whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Slice 1/4 off the top of the apples.
- Core the apples.
- Using a sharp knife make two deep circular cuts around the top of the apples.
- Turn apple over and make vertical narrow cuts around the apple, not through the apple, just around. Like a blooming onion.
- Turn apple over again and check that it looks like a blooming onion.
- Place apples in an oven proof dish and put caramels in the center of the apples.
- Heat butter and brown sugar and microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Remove from microwave and add flour and cinnamon.
- Pour evenly over 2 apples.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes. Check apples after 25 minutes to make sure they are tender, if not cook for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from oven and place in bowls.
- Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and cinnamon, if desired.
