Oven Swiss Steak
- 3/4 lb. boneless beef round steak
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 (8 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
- 1/4 c. chopped celery
- 1/4 c. chopped carrot
- 1 Tbsp. chopped onion
- 1/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp. shredded sharp American cheese
- Cut meat into 2 portions.
- Mix flour and salt; pound into meat.
- Set aside remaining flour.
- Brown meat in small amount of hot shortening.
- Place meat in small shallow baking dish.
- Blend remaining flour with drippings in skillet.
- Add remaining ingredients except cheese and cook, stirring constantly until mixture boils.
- Pour over meat.
- Cover and bake in moderate oven (350u0b0) 2 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender.
- Sprinkle cheese over meat.
- Return to oven for few minutes.
- Makes 2 servings.
