Chocolate Applesauce Cake
- 4 c. sifted flour
- 4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 c. salad oil
- 2 c. sugar
- 3 c. unsweetened applesauce, heated
- 1/2 c. raisins
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
- Caramel Frosting
- Sift together flour, soda, salt, spices and cocoa.
- In a large mixing bowl combine oil and sugar.
- Beat until well blended.
- Stir in hot applesauce, blending thoroughly.
- Add dry ingredients, blending well.
- Stir in raisins and walnuts.
- Turn batter into two well-greased 9-inch square pans.
- Bake in hot (400u0b0) oven for 15 minutes and then reduce oven to 375u0b0 and bake about 15 minutes longer.
- Let stand in pan 5 minutes.
- Remove from pans and complete cooling on racks.
- Frost with Caramel Frosting.
