Lentil Burgers
- 1/2 c. lentils
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1 c. chopped green onions
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 3/4 c. bread crumbs
- 1/4 c. wheat germ
- 1 c. finely chopped walnuts
- 2 eggs
- 4 tsp. steak sauce
- 3 drops red pepper sauce
- sliced tomato and onion (optional)
- Rinse and
- drain the lentils and put in medium saucepan with the
- watertnd
- 3/4
- teaspoon
- salt.
- Cook 25 minutes or until tender.
- Drain and discard excess cooking liquid.
- Mash lentils. Int
- medium
- skillet,
- melt 1 tablespoon butter or margarine and add onions and garlic.
- Saute until soft, about 2 or
- 3
- minutes. Stir
- in
- lentils, along with crumbs, wheat germ, walnuts,
- eggs, steak
- sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt and hot pepper
- sauce.
- Shape into
- fourtatties.
- Melttemaining 2 tablespoons
- butter
- or margarine and fry patties over medium heat until
- brown,
- 3
- to 5 minutes each side, lifting patties occasionally
- with
- spatula
- to prevent sticking.terve with sliced tomato or onion, if desired.
