Scalloped Potatoes (Au Gratin)

  1. Put sliced potatoes in boiling water and precook for 5 to 8 minutes, until slightly cooked but not soft.
  2. Drain and place in a 9 x 13-inch pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
  3. Melt the margarine in saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Add the cornstarch and salt until blended.
  5. Add the milk and slowly stir until a thick white sauce forms.
  6. Turn off the heat and add the cheese to sauce. Stir until the cheese melts, then pour over the potatoes.
  7. Place a layer of cheese slices on top or sprinkle with grated cheese, if desired.
  8. Bake at 350u0b0 for 25 to 30 minutes until the sauce is bubbling and the potatoes are soft.
  9. Serves 4 to 6.
