Grandma'S Best Baked Beans

  1. Sort, wash and soak beans overnight in water to cover.
  2. Next morning, simmer for 40 minutes (until tender) and drain.
  3. In bean pot, layer apple wedges, diced onion and beans.
  4. Combine remainder of ingredients and pour over beans.
  5. Scrape off salt from salt pork.
  6. Cut into 1/2-inch squares to rind.
  7. Press into beans, leaving rind exposed.
  8. Cover bean pot and bake at 250u0b0 for 6 to 8 hours.
  9. Add water during baking, if needed.
  10. Makes 8 servings.
