Pecan Honeymoon Squares

  1. Preheat oven to 325u0b0.
  2. Blend shortening and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
  3. Add 1 cup flour and salt.
  4. Stir in milk.
  5. Pat evenly in a greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
  6. Bake at 325u0b0 for about 20 minutes or until light brown.
  7. Beat eggs; add 1 cup brown sugar and vanilla. Beat until thick.
  8. Stir remaining ingredients.
  9. Pour onto mixture in pan.
  10. Bake at 325u0b0 for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool.
  11. Frost and garnish with cherries, if desired.
  12. Cut into squares.
