Jutta'S Rouladen
- 5 to 6 slices top round
- 1/2 lb. lean bacon
- 1 large onion
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- prepared mustard
- salt and pepper to taste
- Knorr all-purpose seasoning for flavor
- Dice bacon and fry until almost crisp.
- Add finely chopped onion and continue frying until onion is transparent.
- Drain fried onion and bacon thoroughly and set aside.
- Lay slices of the top round on flat surface.
- Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides. Spread slices of meat with a little mustard.
- Spread about 1 tablespoon of bacon-onion mixture over beef rolls.
- Roll meat up in jelly roll like fashion and fasten with toothpicks.
- Brown rouladen in hot fat on all sides.
- Add about 1 1/2 tablespoons of flour and add approximately 2 to 3 cups of water for gravy.
- Simmer for at least 1 hour.
- Season to taste with salt, pepper, bouillon cube and Knorr all-purpose seasoning.
- Serve with homemade spatzle (homemade noodles), rice or mashed potatoes.
