German Chocolate Cake
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 4 oz. bar sweet cooking chocolate
- 1 cup butter softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 1/2 cup cake flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 egg whites (beat until stiff)
- Heat Oven to 350.
- Grease 3 8 or 9-inch round cake pans.
- In small bowl pour hot water over cooking chocolate.
- Stir until melted, let cool.
- In large bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg yolks one at a time, beating after each egg. Blend in chocolate and vanilla.
- Mix in flour, baking soda & salt alternately with buttermilk.
- Fold in egg whites.
- Bake 35-45 minutes until top springs back when touched with finger.
- Cool and top with pecan frosting.
