Oatmeal Polka Dots
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 c. flour
- 1 tsp. mace
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. quick cooking rolled oats (uncooked)
- 3/4 c. finely chopped nuts
- 1 c. (6 oz.) chocolate bits
- Cream sugar, shortening, egg and vanilla thoroughly.
- Add mace and salt to flour.
- Stir to blend.
- Add blended dry ingredients, rolled oats and nuts to creamed mixture.
- Mix well; let stand for 10 minutes.
- Shape dough into 3/4-inch balls.
- Place on ungreased baking sheet.
- Press down in center with finger.
- Bake at 375u0b0 for 5 minutes.
- Remove from oven.
- Press down in center again.
- Return to oven and bake 5 to 7 minutes more.
- Melt chocolate bits in top of double boiler.
- Fill center with 1/4 teaspoon of melted chocolate.
