Society Soup
- 2 lb. lean ground beef, browned with 1 crushed garlic clove
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 1/2 tsp. basil
- 1/2 tsp. seasoned salt
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- dash of cayenne
- 1 Tbsp. parsley flakes
- 2 envelopes Lipton onion soup
- 1 large can Italian-style tomatoes, pureed in blender
- 1 c. chopped celery
- 1 c. chopped celery leaves
- 1 c. chopped carrots
- 1 c. tiny peas (frozen)
- 1 c. corn (frozen)
- 1 Tbsp. finely chopped green pepper
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 10 c. water
- 1/2 c. dry red wine (optional)
- Simmer ingredients 30 minutes, covered.
- Add 1/3 cup of barley and simmer 30 minutes more, covered.
- Add 1/2 cup alphabet macaroni and simmer 15 more minutes, covered.
- Serve with croutons and Parmesan cheese, if desired.
