Original Kentucky Whiskey Cake(A Cissy Gregg Recipe)

  1. Soak cherries and raisins in bourbon overnight.
  2. After flouring nuts, sift rest of flour with baking powder and nutmeg 3 times.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add egg yolks and beat well.
  5. Add soaked fruit and remaining liquid and flour to butter, sugar, egg mixture.
  6. Fold in beaten egg whites.
  7. Add floured pecans.
  8. Bake in large greased tube pan (lined with brown paper, greased and floured).
  9. Bake at 250u0b0 to 275u0b0 for 3 to 4 hours.
  10. Watch baking time.
  11. Cool completely and place in tightly covered container.
  12. Stuff center hole with cheesecloth soaked in bourbon.
  13. Wrap in heavy waxed paper.
  14. Keep very cool.
  15. Refrigerate if necessary.
