Gooey Caramel Brownies
- 50 caramels
- 2/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
- 12 oz. chocolate chips
- 1 c. walnuts
- 3/4 c. butter, melted
- Unwrap caramels and melt in top of double boiler with 1/3 cup of evaporated milk; set aside.
- Mix together the cake mix, remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup chocolate chips, nuts and melted butter.
- Mix dough until it holds together.
- Press 1/2 of dough into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 6 minutes.
- Remove from oven.
- Spread caramel mixture over the top.
- Sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips.
- Put remaining half of dough on top.
- (You have to do this in "pinches".)
- Return to oven and bake an additional 15 to 18 minutes.
- Cool; refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Cut into bars.
- Makes 2 dozen.
