Lasagna
- 2 to 3 medium onions, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 lb. ground pork sausage
- 3 large cans whole peeled tomatoes
- 1 (12 oz.) and 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- Ricotta or small curd cottage cheese
- Mozzarella cheese (lots)
- Parmesan cheese
- lasagna noodles
- salt (as desired)
- pepper (as desired)
- 1 to 2 tsp. sugar
- 1 to 2 tsp. oregano
- 4 to 5 pinches Italian seasoning
- 1 to 2 envelopes French's spaghetti sauce mix
- Saute onions and garlic in a little oil.
- Add ground beef and pork sausage.
- Cook until all red color is gone.
- Drain off excess fat.
- Mash tomatoes with a spoon or your hands.
- Add to meat.
- Add salt, pepper, sugar, oregano, Italian seasoning, French's spaghetti sauce mix.
- Simmer gently, uncovered, until sauce cooks down to about 1-inch (approximately 2 hours).
- In a baking pan, just cover the bottom with sauce, then layer lasagna noodles, sauce, Ricotta or cottage cheese and lots of Mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers as before.
- End with sauce, Mozzarella and a little Parmesan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 about 40 to 50 minutes, until bubbly and slightly brown.
- Remove from oven 15 to 25 minutes before serving so it will set before cutting.
