Monte Cristo Sandwich
- 12 slices firm white bread
- 4 slices turkey
- 4 slices Cheddar cheese
- 4 slices Provolone cheese
- 4 slices ham
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- dash of white pepper
- 1 c. milk
- oil (for frying)
- raspberry jam
- To assemble sandwiches, lay out 4 slices of bread.
- Cover with turkey and Cheddar.
- Add another layer of bread.
- Cover that with Provolone and ham.
- Top with remaining bread.
- Beat eggs with flour, salt, white pepper and milk.
- Dip sandwich in batter and deep fry at 390u0b0, browning on both sides.
- Keep warm until all four are fried.
- To serve, cut in quarters; sprinkle with a little powdered sugar, if desired, and side with some jam for dipping. Serves 4 to 6.
