Chocolate Caramel Squares
- 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
- 1/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 c. melted butter
- 1/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1 c. chocolate chips
- In a heavy pan, combine caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Cook until melted.
- Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Combine dry cake mix, melted butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts.
- By hand, stir until dough holds together.
- Press 1/2 of dough mixture into pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven and spread caramel mixture over baked dough.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over caramel layer.
- Crumble reserved dough over caramel mix layer.
- Return to oven and bake 15 to 18 minutes.
- Cool slightly, then refrigerate about 1 hour before cutting.
