Old Fashioned Dried Apple Stack Cake
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. molasses
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- dash of nutmeg
- Thoroughly cream together sugar and shortening.
- Add egg, molasses and buttermilk.
- Blend well.
- Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture.
- Mix thoroughly and add vanilla.
- Chill dough until easily handled.
- Divide dough into 4 equal parts.
- Roll each about 9-inch circles and place in greased 9-inch cake pans in 350u0b0 preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until done.
- When cool, spread layers with prepared dried apples.
