Layered Walnut Pumpkin Pie

  1. Chop walnuts fine; set aside.
  2. Soften gelatin in water in a 2-quart saucepan.
  3. Stir in pumpkin, 1/2 cup of the sugar, milk, lightly beaten egg yolks, spice and salt.
  4. Heat just to boiling, stirring constantly.
  5. Turn heat very low.
  6. Cook 5 minutes, stirring.
  7. Remove from heat.
  8. Add vanilla and Cool Whip.
  9. Chill until mixture thickens slightly.
